Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no email address to hand over, and no password. Open the app and use it.
How many diagnoses do I get?
Clover includes a free allowance of identifications, diagnoses and care guides each month. The app shows how many you have left, and the allowance resets at the start of each month. If you run out, everything already saved to your plants stays available, and the Care tab keeps tracking what's due.
What is Clover Pro?
Clover Pro is an optional monthly subscription that lifts the monthly limits on identifications, diagnoses and care guides, and turns on care reminder notifications — one on the day a plant's watering or feeding comes due, with a follow-up if you miss one. Setting rhythms and seeing what's due on the Care tab is free for everyone; only the notifications need Pro. Fair use applies — it isn't metered month to month, but there is a ceiling to stop automated abuse, and the app tells you plainly if you ever reach it.
You can look at Clover Pro any time without spending an identification: open About (the ⓘ button on the Today tab) and tap Clover Pro. The price shown there comes from your app store, in your own currency.
I reinstalled the app, or got a new phone — where did my subscription go?
Tap Restore purchases. It's on the Clover Pro screen, on the first-launch welcome screen, and on About.
Clover has no account, so a subscription is attached to the app's installation rather than to a username. Reinstalling, or moving to a new phone, creates a new installation — restoring is what moves the subscription across. Use the same Apple or Google account you bought it with.
I subscribed, but the app still says I've run out
Give it a moment and try again — the purchase usually needs a few seconds to reach our server, and simply retrying is what completes it. If it persists, tap Restore purchases. If it still won't budge, email us and mention roughly when you subscribed.
How do I cancel?
Through your app store, not through Clover — we can't cancel a subscription on your behalf.
- iPhone/iPad: Settings → your name → Subscriptions
- Android: Play Store → your profile → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions
You keep Pro until the end of the period you've already paid for. After that, notifications stop arriving; your rhythms, the Care tab and your reminder settings are all kept, and notifications pick up again if you resubscribe. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google too, since they took the payment.
Why was my plant identified incorrectly?
Clover reads a photo, so it can be wrong — and it tells you when its checks disagreed with each other rather than sounding certain. A clear, well-lit photo of the whole plant gives the best result, and a close-up of the affected leaves helps for a diagnosis.
For a valuable plant, or one that is struggling badly, check with a nursery or a specialist before acting on the advice.
Where are my plants and photos stored?
On your device. Your plants, their photos, and your saved results are not kept on our servers. That also means they are not backed up by us: if you delete the app or lose the phone, that history is gone.
Photos you submit for a diagnosis are sent to our server to be analyzed and are not stored there afterwards.
How do I delete my data?
Most of it never leaves your phone, so deleting the app removes your plants, photos and saved results.
For the small amount that reaches our servers, email hello@cloverhouseplants.com and we'll handle the request. The About screen in the app has a button that prefills this email with your device id, which is what we need to find the records. See the privacy policy for what we hold and for how long.
Deleting and canceling are separate things. Deleting your records doesn't cancel a subscription — only your app store can do that (see above) — and canceling doesn't delete anything. If you're subscribed, deleting the records means we lose the link between your subscription and this installation, so restoring it afterwards may not work. Cancel first, then ask us to delete.
The app says it isn't configured correctly
That message means the app couldn't verify itself with our server. It normally clears on its own — close the app fully and open it again. If it keeps happening, email us and mention which store you installed from.
